Bruno Mathsson

Bruno Mathsson, born into a family of furniture makers, became a prominent Swedish architect and furniture designer. He started his career in furniture making, later transitioning to architecture. Notably, he focused on environmentally friendly housing and designed a glass house inspired by Philip Johnson's work. Mathsson's innovative approach included fixed glass panes and skeleton construction with glass panels. He built numerous structures, incorporating his forward-thinking designs. In 1948, he visited the U.S., meeting influential architects. Mathsson's contributions extend to furniture design, including the Superellips table and the Karin armchair. He received several awards and the title of professor from the Swedish government. Mathsson's legacy lives on through the annual Bruno Mathsson Prize, a prestigious design award in the Nordic countries.
