About this item

This safari Sirocco arm or lounge chair was designed in 1966 by the Swedish designer Arne Norell and produced by Scanform Colombia, which was a company making Norell furniture for America. Many of the Scanform edition chairs were exported to the USA and are very rare. More common is the European edition by Norell Furniture. Our Scanform example somehow found its way to Europe. It has a wooden frame strapped together with dark brown leather straps and a removable leather cushion. In very good vintage condition with the original leather! Marked Scanform Colombia in the cushion. Very collectable Scandinavian piece of furniture with South American roots for any mid-century design lover.

Arne Norell

Arne Norell is probably one of the most regonized Swedish designers of the mid-century. Born in 1917 he was active in the early mid-century. He had a fascination for Danish design and many of his work are among the most iconic items of Scandinavian design. Famous are his Sirocco and Ari Lounge chair. But he also designed the Ilona and Inca armchair and the famous sofa for Coja. Together with Kaare Klint, Hans Wegner, Borge Mogensen, Finn Juhl and Torbjorn Afdahl, Arne Norell is among the greatest Scandinavian mid-century designers.
