About this item

Rare Geoffrey Harcourt for Artifort “Model 988” Leather Lounge Chair, Dutch Design 1975

Rare Geoffrey Harcourt for Artifort “Model 988” leather lounge chair, Dutch design, 1975.

Lounge chair in beautiful high quality cognac colored leather.

This chair is made in 1975 by Artifort the Netherlands and designed by Geoffrey Harcourt. Harcourt designed many well-known furniture pieces for Artifort. This model 988 chair is a very rare piece of his hand. We have never seen one for sale before what makes it a true collector’s item.

The last photo is a scarce official photograph we found showing the chair in different leather colours. Not many documentation can be found and we think this chair was sold for a very short time or maybe was not for sale at all and existed solely as a prototype or exhibition object.

It is in good vintage condition with a nice patina to the leather. Marked Artifort at the bottom.

Geoffrey David Harcourt graduated at the Royal College of Art in London. Around 1962 he started working for Artifort where he designed a series of desk chairs. With Artifort he became one of the leading designers of the mid-century. Together with Pierre Paulin and Kho Lian Ie he is considered the most important designer for Artifort. Many items are classic design pieces nowadays. Items like his F584 lounge chair, “Cleopatra” sofa and his office and dining chairs are still very popular in many modern interiors.
