About this item
Vintage cabinet, model MC40, for storing hi-fi equipment. Made by Bang & Olufsen and designed by Danish Mid-Century designer Jacob Jensen in the 1970s.
If you are looking for a vintage cabinet for storing your audio equipment, your choice is limit. Not many people could afford high end audio equipment in the mid-century. So cabinets to store those items were not common pieces furniture companies would produce. One of the few companies that did made their own cabinet, was Bang & Olufsen. Bang & Olufsen is one of the most respected manufactures of Hi End audio equipment with a focus on quality and design. They saw the need of a beautiful piece of furniture to store their Hi-Fi pieces.
The designer who was asked to design the cabinet was Jacob Jensen. Jensen was also responsible for various other designs such as the B&O record players. He design a range of models consisting three pieces. The MC20, MC30 and MC40. Our piece is the MC40, the largest of series.
Our piece is quite a rare edition. Many cabinets were made of teak or rosewood veneer. Our piece is made of oak veneer. We haven’t seen one before. We also think this is an early example, since the label on front is silver. All other pieces we have seen had a black label.
The cabinet is in good vintage condition. People often drilled holes in the back for cable management. Our piece is original and has no holes! It has some veneer wear from water on the side top. And some veneer damage on the lower side. Please see picture.
A collectors piece!
